Southend on Sea has long been a favourite coastal resort, with its close proximity to London (42 miles). The nearby A127 London to Southend dual carriageway provides a direct link with J29 of the M25 and ongoing motorway network and there are two main line train stations providing connections with London Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street Stations.
Southend is most famous for its pleasure pier and beach with the town having a range of attractions on offer, including the annual torchlight carnival procession, the May Bank Holiday free airshow, attracting 3/4 million visitors to the town and the London to Southend classic car run. Other features include boat trips along the River Thames, Essex and Kent coastal towns, the Golden Mile with its arcades, a ten-pin bowling alley in the Kursaal plus an assortment of restaurants, bars, cafes, casinos and nightclubs.
Southend Pier stretches 1.3 miles into the Thames Estuary, making it the World’s longest pleasure pier, with people visiting the town to walk its length (or take the train) and admire the shoreline views.
Adventure Island, located on the seafront within walking distance of The Kursaal, is a family theme park offering rides for all ages and the Sea Life centre almost opposite hosts a collection of sea life, an attraction visited by all ages. There are also many watersports available in the area and at the Marine Activity Centre.
Shops in Southend range from well known major retailers to more obscure, high quality independent boutiques. The Victoria Shopping Centre has undergone a major refurbishment programme and at the southern end of the High Street, within a short distance of historic Royal Terrace, is the Royals Shopping Mall. Southend also has a brand new, state of the art building for the South East Essex College and the new University of Essex.
The town has developed a more cosmopolitan atmosphere recently and has grown into a vibrant coastal location with many visitors both for the day or weekend.
Being one of the most populated areas in the south east outside of London, Southend on Sea forms a vital part of the Thames Gateway regeneration area. With the addition of the recently finished Pier Hill enhancement project and plans in the pipeline for a new Hotel/Conference Centre, this will transform the seafront into a year round recreational experience for both residents and visitors.
The newly refurbished Kursaal provides a wonderful opportunity for multi-national and local firms alike.
